DIMAR Cherasco

One of Europe’s Largest Food Distribution Logistics Hubs

The Customer

DIMAR is one of the leading companies in the large-scale retail sector in North-West Italy. For more than fifty years, it has operated through an extensive network of retail stores, standing out for service quality, logistics efficiency and continuous attention to customers’ needs.
To support its growth strategy, the company launched a major investment: the construction of its new logistics hub in Cherasco, designed to become one of Italy’s largest food distribution centres.

The Challenge

The objective was to develop a logistics infrastructure capable of supporting the company’s future expansion by significantly increasing storage capacity while ensuring operational continuity, fast material handling and maximum supply chain efficiency.
The project’s complexity required a partner able to manage engineering, manufacturing and installation simultaneously, meeting demanding deadlines without compromising quality or safety.

The Dalmine Logistic Solutions Project

Dalmine Logistic Solutions designed and supplied the entire pallet racking system for the new logistics centre, developing a solution fully tailored to the customer’s operational requirements.

The facility covers a total area of approximately 75,000 m² and provides storage for around 110,000 pallet locations, making it one of the largest logistics projects completed in recent years within the food distribution sector.

The infrastructure is organised into four fully integrated operating areas, specifically designed to optimise logistics flows and ensure high efficiency throughout the entire supply chain.

Thanks to the manufacturing capacity of Dalmine Logistic Solutions’ production plant in Potenza and careful on-site project planning, the installation was completed fully within the agreed schedule, ensuring operational continuity throughout every stage of the project.

Warehouse Configuration

Main Warehouse

The main storage area consists of two large pallet racking blocks together with additional storage areas installed on concrete slab, designed to maximise storage capacity while ensuring direct access to every load unit.

– 1 block with 90 rows × 29 bays
– 1 block with 97 rows × 33 bays
– 1 slab-mounted block with 465 racking bays
– 1 slab-mounted block with 242 racking bays
– Racking height: 10 metres
– Configuration for pallets up to 1,200 kg

Mezzanine Picking Area

To improve productivity and increase order fulfilment speed, part of the installation was developed using pallet racking installed on a mezzanine floor.

The area includes:
– 3.5-metre-high shelving
– Gravity carton-flow systems
– Optimised picking routes

This configuration reduces picking times, improves operator ergonomics and increases overall warehouse efficiency.

The Value of Partnership

The construction of the new Cherasco logistics hub represents one of the most significant investments in DIMAR’s recent history.

Throughout every stage of the project, Dalmine Logistic Solutions supported the customer with an integrated approach covering engineering, design, manufacturing, site logistics and installation.

High manufacturing capacity, organisational flexibility and continuous coordination between all departments enabled the project to be completed on schedule while meeting the highest quality standards and design objectives, transforming a highly complex challenge into a logistics infrastructure built to support DIMAR’s long-term growth.
